Preparing to Record "One World" - Costume-Making

We listened to many different Celtic songs and went with Celtic Woman’s “One World” because it’s a very powerful song about people working together to create a better world for everyone.

We wanted ethereal costumes to reflect the mood of our song and found a pattern for Celtic/Medieval dresses that was simple, modest, and beautiful. The most difficult part of that process was finding different colors that we all liked and that looked nice altogether!

We bought the material and spent the weekend cutting out our patterns and watching movies together. Mom and Christina sewed our dresses this weekend because Mom has knee surgery scheduled for Tuesday.

Creating GaleSong

Earlier this month, Mom was reading the news and came across an NBC page that talked about the “America’s Got Talent” auditions. She thought about us and wondered if we might be interested in trying out for something like this. We all agreed that it would be a wonderful opportunity for us to improve our singing and have fun spending time together as sisters.

We had our first official meeting today to decide: our goals, our dreams, which roles each of us would play in our group, the name of our group, which song we should record first, and what to do about costuming.

Originally, we wanted our group name to be “NightinGales” because it’s a play on our last name (Gale) and the songbird that sings at night (we love to stay up late!) We quickly discovered, however, that there was already a group with the name we liked so we decided on “GaleSong”; still a play on our last name, and the fact that we like music.

About Us

GaleSong is a group of five sisters who enjoy singing together! We started our group in 2007 as a fun hobby to allow us to creatively express ourselves through music. We especially enjoy uplifting, inspiring songs, and hope we can make the world a little better through our melodies.

Each of us have participated in audition choirs at both high school and college levels. We’ve also had some voice lessons and we’re constantly practicing to improve our voices.

First group project: 2007 when we recorded a couple of CD’s as Christmas presents for our friends and family. In 2008, we formalized our group when we auditioned for “America’s Got Talent” in San Diego. (For a complete timeline of important events, please see this post).

We’re not connected with any record label or marketing company. Everything we’ve accomplished to this point has been done and paid for by us, with a lot of help from our wonderful friends and family.

In the summer of 2013 we purchased a keyboard, microphone, sound mixer, and software so that we could produce our own recordings. We also do our own music arrangements, photography, costumes, marketing, editing, videos, social media, and etc., sometimes through trades with friends and always with the encouragement of our amazing family.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Blog! We appreciate your support.
Sincerely, GaleSong
