Tiffany's Experience with Thyroid Cancer
Our incredible, brave, awesome sister Tiffany posted this to her Facebook page today. She gave me permission to re-post it here.
"Today, a year ago, I found out I had thyroid cancer. It’s been a difficult, painful, but altogether, a growing year.
I’ve had a lot of new, interesting, painful, embarrassing and joyful experiences with my initiation into the cancer club. I’ve experienced the overwhelming fear of going to the next doctor’s exam – praying that the last treatment went well, I’ve learned the value of having close family and friends and how precious that strength can be, and I’ve found needed support and advice from unexpected sources.
I’ve found that tears are healing and the ability to cry is a gift (right after I had my thyroid removed, I couldn’t cry or swallow very well because it was too painful on my throat). I’ve observed that there are people who may seem to be worse off and people that may appear to have better, but that doesn’t lessen the potency of my experience or the fact that everyone, at any given time, is struggling with something and patience with others brings us closer to how our Heavenly Father views his precious children.
I’ve learned that education via the Internet has its value, but can also be a dangerous opponent from uneducated sources. I’ve learned to truly appreciate life and that cancer is not a life-stopping event (hopefully!), but is always a life-altering one.
Most importantly, I’ve reaffirmed that God is in control. I still don’t have all of the answers for why this happened to me, but the circumstances of discovery; scraping my chin on the bottom of a pool a week before I was supposed to leave the country, putting Neosporin on my injury, developing a rash because of an unknown allergy to the medicine and going to the doctor only for him to point out a lump on my neck; these help reaffirm to me that my Heavenly Father knows us and our lives and the things we need more than, I suspect, we could ever know to the fullest ourselves.
On a side note, as a person who ignored the symptoms I had long before I found out I had cancer, I recommend regular self-assessments and doctor checkups – it could save a life!"

Video Shoot - "Nightsong", for the Blizzcon 2014 Talent Contest
Today we shot the video for our entry into the Blizzcon 2014 Talent Contest!
It was a crazy day. We finished sewing our costumes in the morning, did our hair and makeup in the afternoon, and shot the video tonight...in a thunderstorm!
The weather was cloudy when we started shooting but as the evening approached, so did a huge storm. Thanks to our awesome family for sticking it out with us (and risking their lives holding up umbrellas in the rain to shield the cameras).
Stay tuned for the video in a few weeks. :)
A couple of pics of us turning in our quest items (we went full out this year; notice our awesome elf ears?!):
And one of us in the thunderstorm. It's bright because there was a big bolt of lightening as this pic was taken!

Funeral for Our Dear Papa
The past few weeks have been some of the hardest we've ever gone through; both of our grandfathers passed away (within 10 days of each other).
Papa's funeral was today and we were blessed (with our cousins) to be able to sing at his funeral. Papa served a Mission for the LDS Church in Hawaii, and the culture and music have been very much a part of our lives. We wore beautiful leis and sang, "Aloha 'Oe" and "Always" (Papa and Grandma's song).
It was a beautiful service.
We're thankful for our faith in God and in His Son, Jesus Christ. It is because of His Gospel that we know we will be together again with our Papa. Families can be together forever.
Until we meet again, Papa, in Heaven.

Trip to Illinois to Visit Papa
We're in Illinois, safe and sound.
On Saturday we found out that our wonderful Grandpa (Papa) was in the hospital and not doing well. We got home from the air show we'd attended in his honor (he was a member of the Airborne Division), packed up, and left early Sunday morning.
It took us 13 hours to drive from Utah to Illinois. 13 very long hours. But we're grateful to be here and spend some time with Papa.

Our Brave, Radioactive Sister Tiffany
This afternoon our sweet Tiffany will be radioactive!
She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last September and had her thyroid removed soon after. Today she takes a radioactive pill to hopefully get rid of any cancer that might still be lurking about.
After that, she'll literally be radioactive for the next 7-10 days and be in quarantine.
What a brave sister she is. Thanks Tiffany for your optimism and faith during such an incredibly difficult time.

Salt Lake City Comic Con FanXperience
Our whole family went to the Salt Lake City Comic Con FanXperience; it was a blast!
We received free tickets for doing the commercial shoot back in January. We loved listening to the panels (especially Patrick Stewart and Adam Baldwin), watching the StarCraft tournaments, hanging out with other geeks, and dressing up!
GaleSong made steampunk-inspired Disney Princess costumes.
Any excuse to dress up!
